B For Blogdetta
So maybe a daily blog isn't a good idea. Not saying I shouldn't blog, but let's face it: a daily routine isn't much to blog about. What I wanted to do was create a way of focusing on writing. My goal wasn't about keeping track of who did dishes on what day. So you can understand that my first instinct was to just drop the blog altogether. After all, it was getting to the point that the most interesting thing I had to talk about was the movie news I read from somewhere else.
I'm not saying that I dislike my life. Actually, I love having a daily routine. But this blog is about writing focus, and so instead of giving up, it's time for a reboot. If I can figure out how to make it daily, I will. But for right now, we'll leave it at blogging after any event in my life.
Hmmm. Writing with purpose....this may just work!

Beauty & The Blog
So it's time to get back on track with my blog. Today is what this blogging is all about, pushing through with the writing and finding the right balance.
Today is Mother's Day, so I'm writing only a quick insert while Darcy is at work so when she gets home I'm not pulling myself away, which has been the problem the last couple of days. Friday was a good day overall, and I pushed everything aside all day for Darcy, but at the end of the day, when time was running out and I still hadn't blogged, I asked her if she could clean up the kitchen while I blogged. She was wanting to go to bed, but she didn't want to say no because she didn't want to hinder me, so instead a big rush of sadness overcame her, changing the temperature extremely, and I can't write when I'm emotionally cold (or distracted, as Dallas stands next to me at this very minute sneezing over and over and Gavin sits beside me humming and bouncing around, which is why this blog is going to be short!). Sooooo, instead of blogging, I had to put everything aside and figure out what was wrong with her, as well as clean up the kitchen while I did it, and all she had to do was make a negative comment about me blogging to hold me back. So I didn't blog that night. Instead, I fell into myself, frustrated that once again my writing was being suppressed.
So yesterday I was going to get back to blogging. It's the weekend so I have no time away from the kids while Darcy is at work, and when Darcy gets home, she doesn't want me running off to write. I was trying to find a way to get my time, but one thing after another crept up, and I let it go. It made it to the end of the night and this time I planned on showering and then blogging, figuring Darcy would be in bed. But when I came out of the shower, she sat at the computer reading Facebook stuff. So I laid on the bed and began to drift. By the time she was done, I was too tired to blog. This seemed to upset her, and she insisted that I blog, but she's not understanding that I want to have time set aside to do this, not stay up all hours of the night doing it. But we come to that problem of what time do we sacrifice for me to write, and that's what this blog is all about, learning whether or not we'll be able to do this, whether or not I'll be able to start focusing on some real written work.
I realize this blog is all over the place. It's because I can't concentrate whatsoever. But I know I won't be getting to it tonight, and I didn't want another short "hang up". One of the problems with me getting back to the blog, though, was that I would feel like a dishonest writer to blog like I had been when this seems to be a problem for Darcy. And since Gavin is kicking at Dallas, I totally lost my train of thought.
Anyway, I have to go, it's turning into craziness here because I'm at the computer and kids are demanding. I won't be back until tomorrow, and hopefully this blog will get me past the craziness in my head of overthinking what I shouldn't write. I just wanna get back to my blogging about Iron Man!
Okay, that's it for now.

Indiana Jones & The Blog Of Doom
DARCY: Today Darcy had off, and she inspired me to clean clean clean. Things have been such a mess in our room because everytime we'd clean elsewhere, the extra little stuff ended up in our room to "put away later". So, later has come. We had to wait for AT&T all day, so what better time to get to cleaning, eh? We packed for our trip first, though. Darcy is super-excited, so I thought she may like to pack today. True, we still have nearly 4 weeks, but it brought a smile to her face, and that's what matters. She was a bit upset with me this morning cause I slept in on her day off. Hopefully I made up for it.
MY KIDS: Got to talk to Haley today to fix the plans with Madeleine. Nothing set yet, but we'll come up with something. Haley's been great about helping make this happen. Hopefully we can set it up for Madeleine to have dinner with Kim and Gary after our big day. Madeleine loves meeting everybody!
In the cleaning, I found a frame I'd been looking for that I'd gotten awhile back, 7 slots for 7 kids (sounds like a musical). Now if I could only get some recent pictures of Jacob and Emily.... On the other hand, Darcy took some AWESOME shots of the kids that I just have to post.
FAMILY & FRIENDS: Mom visited today, brought us chocolate milk. Yum. It's always a pleasure to see Mom. She gave me a ride to the library so I could check out The Shack. I may try to read it twice so as to absorb it that much better. Darcy is going to read it too so she can get in on the discussion with Kim.
BIG FOUR: Plan on starting The Shack tonight. Can't really comment yet cause all I've looked at is the cover, but my sister seems to love it.
Didn't get to too much TV today, with all the cleaning. One episode of Bones. What a shame. Not even an hour of TV! Darcy mentioned Avatar, but it just wasn't right for it yet...
RANDOM INTERNET: Check this site out. This crazy rabbit goes after your cursor! You can shake him off, but be careful, he holds on tight....

I have something new for the blog. Darcy and I were talking about our different decorations and thought it would be interesting to put little bits of our home on here! So, without further delay, I bring you....
For our first entry, we have the bathroom door, in all it's adventurous glory....
Going in for a closer look, you can see that the pictures on the sides of the door are small replicas of the Indiana Jones movie posters, in the 3D Lenticular prints. Of course the camera doesn't pick up the 3D effect. That's an adventure you have to experience in real life....
And the little figure that stands on the top of the door frame is a poor Storm Trooper who escaped the destruction of the Death Star, but ended up being fired over a fight he had with an Imperial Guard. Seems the Storm Trooper's wife divorced him for this Guard, and after a 3 day drinking binge, he "stormed" in during the arrival of the Emperor (in Return Of The Jedi) and beat the Imperial Guard senseless. So now we yell up to this drunk divorced out-of-work Storm Trooper, "Don't jump!"

Darcy has an eye for the camera, too. Here's some shots she took yesterday....

Iron Blog
So as days roll by with very little action, I don't want to try and spice up things, but I don't want the blog to go by without noticed, because that's how I'll lose touch with it. Plus I like the movie posters! So, if these seem short, it's not because they are rushed, it's because the day was slow.
DARCY: Still clicking away on the calculator, figuring our costs and times for the trip. Her mom called today, and I guess there was a problem with the time frame of when the kids would be watched. We did a little re-arranging, and everything is back on track. Still getting married the 27th, but we will be back a little sooner. No biggie.
MY KIDS: Meant to call Madeleine tonight, we're gonna have to change the day of getting together. Really look forward to spending some time with her. Rinoa seems to have settled the fight she was having with a boy on the bus. For some reason, the boy came up to our house today and said that Rinoa was real good on the bus. Previously he had been tattling on her. Hope I'm not missing something here.
FAMILY & FRIENDS: Had a nice chat with my sister on the phone. She led me to a book called The Shack by Wm. Paul Young, or William P. Young...not sure what he goes by cause different books appear differently. Anyway, it felt good to fall into the old conversations that we once had. I remember being able to discuss books and movies in a much deeper sense with her back in the way back. So I'll have to get my hands on a copy of this so we can discuss it when Darcy and I visit!
BIG FOUR: I am all Iron Manned Up. Today we were bombarded by Iron Man 2 merch at Wal-Mart, and you know what? I didn't feel like running. Probably because I am totally convinced this will be far better than the first, and the first was pretty damn good. Iron Man, Spider-Man, Batman Begins...These movies set us up with an origin story, but the problem that it has holding up with the sequel is screen time. It takes forever before we see our hero movin' and groovin' in front of us (it took over an hour before we actually saw Iron Man!), so then the sequel comes along, and we open with our masked avenger ready to hog the screen for the whole movie! I get why origin movies are important, but with the limited screen time, they almost seem like mini-movies. I personally like the second movies to watch over and over. And so, with Iron Man, not only do we inherit a fully armored iron-clad adventure synced to AC/DC, but we get War Machine as well. Plus, I've always been a fan of Mickey Rourke and Don Cheadle, so you can imagine that this movie has me on the edge of my seat. There WILL be two hours on my honeymoon reserved for this (yes, Darcy is excited too). Not really news worthy, but that's because I didn't want to give away the cameos....
Looks like a Sith Warrior was sent for Iron Man....
Now that Leverage is behind us, it's back to the random for a bit. Today I watched an episode of Dead Zone, and almost finished Bones before my sister called. Still trying to set up the perfect time for Avatar. From what I've read, this is THE best Blu-Ray transfer, so we're trying to make sure it's the perfect time for viewing. Darcy and I got to see this in the theater, so I do know first hand how amazing it is. I can't figure out if Dallas is excited about watching it, or just excited that he can say the word. After hearing news reports that a lot of people couldn't play their movie, we tested ours (it works), and the whole time during a five minute scene, Dallas rocked back and forth in front of the TV and said, "That's Avatar!" over and over. Soon enough, young Padawan....
RANDOM INTERNET: Been meaning to read some of the classics? Jules Verne, Mark Twain, Charles Dickens? Here's a link to get some of these and more as free ebooks!

Blog Runner
DARCY: Not really all that eventful today. Darcy digs Leverage as much as I do now. She ended up staying up late with me to watch the rest of Season 2. Other than that, she's past the weekend sickness and her focus is back on the trip.
MY KIDS: Dallas is becoming quite a crack-up. His phrasings and joking nature show that he'll be quite a jokester as he grows up! Talked with Madeleine and Haley tonight about meeting during the trip. Everything is looking good!
FAMILY & FRIENDS: RD came over and picked up the left overs from the yard sale to take to Goodwill. He's pretty awesome. I had planned on doing it tomorrow, when Darcy was off, but RD is the type that likes to get 'er done. Mom came by for a brief visit. She's having trouble with her feet swelling, water retention. We'll probably see her tomorrow. I like that she's laughing a lot more these days.
BIG FOUR: Maybe I was young and a desperate sucker for any sci-fi television, but I can't help but feel a tinge of excitement for what I discovered comes out August 10th. Spokesman for "New Coke" and star of his own series, for the first time on DVD I present to you... Ma-Ma-Ma-Max Headroom! When I was younger I was fascinated with this show. I never actually saw it broadcast. I had the VHS tape, though, and played it a lot. It's still strange for me to see Matt Frewer in parts other than this character. He is funny on Eureka, but it's just not the same. Then again, it could be that I haven't seen the show in so long, that my youth made it that much better.
(Sort of like Death Race 2000. For some reason you remember it to be this awesome violent show with Sly Stallone. Then you have a bunch of friends over for the premiere of the DVD, and you see what a piece of crap it actually was the whole time. Not...that that ever happened to me.)
So I finished Leverage season two before the time ran out. 28 episodes in 4 days. It was worth it, though. Good show, with the exception of some character changes in the last part of season 2. Other than that, the con games didn't get redundant, and there were plenty of surprises to keep this Birthday Boy from blowing out the candles early. Now I can get back to spreading out my entertainment a bit. It's been awhile since I've been able to buckle down with a book, and I'm trying to review my music before the trips (regular music before the trip with Darcy, and Oldies music before the Graceland trip with Mom).
RANDOM INTERNET: If the music you're listening to is getting a bit stale, here's a site that's awesome to help clear the palate a bit.

Wild Wild Blog
DARCY: So yesterday was supposed to be the first day of my diet. The month of May I plan on eating less and walking more. Anyway, we've had severe storms and tornadoes and the works, so I've been up late into the night and early morning with scared children, and my own sleep schedule has been slightly off, so my walking schedule was put on hold the last few days. But damn! if you don't get hungry watching TV at 2 in the morning! So, after a few small snacks last night in the midst of the night, I wasn't hungry when I got up. And then it hit me in mid afternoon...Taco Bell. Darcy, who has been sick all weekend, was nice enough to run real quick and get us some Taco Bell. It was good, too, like I just HAD to eat. I feel a little bad though, since I didn't even think twice when Darcy said she'd run and get me something. She's doing a lot better today than she was the last couple days, but I should've shrugged off my sudden craving and just raided the fridge. Darcy didn't even bat an eye, though. Maybe she was craving tacos, too. I'm sure I can make myself feel better somehow.
I ended up writing later than planned because Darcy and I started working on our upcoming trip. Come June we're going to be seeing family we haven't seen in years, as well as throwing in an amusement park outing! I wanted to cut the conversation short so I could focus on the blog (it's my practice run for writing at a certain time each day), but Darcy shines when she talks about the trip, and this is something I don't like to miss. At all. So I traded in a little writing time for some Darcy Smile. We've changed the date (again) for when we'll be married, this time May 27th. Just one day off, but this way we can leave a day earlier for the trip. I look forward to trips with Darcy. We once drove from Florida to South Dakota, and it felt like a two hour drive. We talked the whole time, forgetting about video games and music and books and all those things that pass the time. We're awesome together.
MY KIDS: Around here it's been rather quiet. Sundays feel like we're all just passing the time to get to Monday, when Gavin and Rinoa get back to school to their friends, and Dallas has the run of the house again (as if he doesn't have the run of the house anyway). I also got to talk with Madeleine tonight, which is always a treat. She has so much positive energy you'd think you could bottle it and sell it! So, in the planning and adding the extra day, we were able to figure out where we could visit with Madeleine. I called to work that part out. Looks like Madeleine will plan the day, which will be great cause she'll be able to show us around her part of life!
FAMILY & FRIENDS: With the new changes to the plan, it looks like we'll be able to visit my sister Kim after all. It's been years since I've seen her, so a day hanging with her should be nice.
Also, Annie and I had a nice long conversation on the phone. She reminded me that the weekend I'll be getting married is Memorial Day weekend, which gave us the idea that maybe we should bump it up a day, which gave us the room to be able to see my sister. Thanks, Annie!
BIG FOUR: I'll admit it, I don't know much of anything when it comes to the Marvel superhero Thor. I thought the character was already being used by mythology, so I didn't pay much attention growing up to this superGod that showed up with Iron Man and Cappy. I just figured it was like when the Harlem Globetrotters showed up on Scooby Doo. But as I got older, I find out that Thor is actually on the host list, not the guest's! And as they are setting up the movie dominoes for the big fall, The Avengers Movie, they are bringing Thor to the big screen. Looks like they settled on Kenneth Branagh to direct, I guess because he's all Shakespearean and shit and this is going to be a "thou and thee" type of movie (since that's who Thor is in the comics). Personally, I still think of Branagh as Dr. Loveless, but that's because I liked Wild Wild West and watched it more than once. But the talk is whether or not Chris Hemsworth, the skinny dude who played Capt. Kirk's dad in the new Star Trek movie, will be able to pull off the part of Thor. Is this really a worry anymore? Didn't Tobey Maguire and Robert Downey Jr. prove that with great budget comes great suspension of belief? Throw in Less Than Zero, or Pleasantville, and tell me if "superhero" pops out at you. But we're preparing for the Avengers Movie, probably the biggest superhero event to find it's way to the big screen. I'm sure someone knows what they're doing. If not, we're gonna love it anyway.
THOR
Still watching Leverage. I'm on season two now. Still an awesome show. A few lines have become pattern (Let's go steal us a new line, shall we?), but other than that, the actors are really settling into their characters with more ease. Timothy Hutton pulls me in anyway, and today I went on and added any streaming movies of his that were available.
RANDOM INTERNET: Strange singing horses....well, this one you just have to play around with on your own.

Today wasn't exactly a great picture day, so I figured I'd resort back to some old favorites....
Excitement's my middle name.....
Okay, so maybe Darcy's a bit better at it than me.
Ron & Chel know how to turn on the Excite-O-Meter, though.
I got it! How about a Michael J. Fox movie marathon?!
Guys? Guys?
Well, atleast I still got....me.

Back To The Blogger
So, as my first (official) blog, this should have somewhat of an intro as to make continuing blog additions comprehensible.
DARCY: Darcy and I met in 2004 in Columbus, Ohio. I was store manager at Subway, and I hired her in. Even though we actually didn't have the hours to spare, I knew there was something special about this one, and my instincts proved true. She was a great employee, and it didn't take long for us to find the hours for her with the turnover as it is in food service. With her willingness to work, this put Darcy and I working side by side nearly every day. When we met, she was in a lousy marriage, and I was in a failing relationship, and we helped each other through, and out, of these situations. Standing on the other side together, Darcy and I realized how important we were to each other, and made the decision to stay together from then on.
Both having terrible marriages in the past and wonderful children of the present, we chose to not worry about getting married, that the focus would stay on us and the kids, not worrying about "tying the knot". And then our adventure began, as we decided to relocate closer to family. This endeavor, with only the goal of being near family in mind, took us from Florida to South Dakota, from Texas to Tennessee. In the process of trying to settle, we were uprooted to such a drastic point that we lost literally everything we had except for a bag of clothes each with a few odds and ends stuffed in between. And in this time of searching for stability, Darcy and I had a child together: Dallas.
When we finally settled, we made one more big decision that finally changed our tiresome pattern. Darcy decided to go into the Army, something she'd wanted to do for so long but never had the guts to try, until she met me. Our plan was a three parter. Part one: she goes into Basic, I watch the kids. Part two: she returns home for leave, we get married. Part three: she establishes a home on base for us, and we take it from there. Part two and three never happened. During part one Darcy injured her leg severely, which we found out ended up being a blessing because what we didn't know until she was discharged was that had she finished her training, she would not have been coming home for a wedding, she would've been shipped off to Iraq. She was held over for awhile for medical examination, but because of the short extra time she did spend, we were able to make enough money to make a new start, and with this as well as help from family and friends, we were able to replace all that we had lost, as well as officially settle. Plus, while stuck on crutches, Darcy refused to let time be wasted, investing the next two years in getting a college degree.
So our roles stuck, and here we are, 5 years later. I watch the kids and push forward with my writing and photography, Darcy brings home the bacon. I could tell there was something missing, though. She was fine with our roles, and not only do we hardly ever fight, we enjoy each other so much we do very little without each other. What buzzed in Darcy's ear, though, was the sting of the bee that carried a different last name besides mine, and until we were officially married, that bee would keep buzzing. Although we had decided to not get married until 2015, enough time to prepare for an "Ultimate Wedding", I could tell she'd trade all that to have my last name as hers NOW. So I broke the seal. I asked her if she wanted to get married this year, and the look in her eyes was enough to tell me that now that the seal is broken, there is no returning the item. Which, in Darcy's case, is irrelevant, because I lost the receipt a long time ago.
Now it feels like we hit the refresh button again, but this time instead of our lives being stripped down, it feels as if we're being built up. And to think, it all started with just two simple words: You're hired.
MY KIDS: What a tangled web we weave. Really? You'll allow me to get away with such cliché phrasing? Well, when it comes to my kids, it does become as complicated as a spider's web. I'll spare you the R-Rated drama half-witted failed planning to zoom out and see the big map.
In '92, Sarah Robison and I had a daughter together, Catharine. I was able to be a part of Catharine's life for the first 5 years, but circumstances pulled us apart. Sarah and I never married.
I married in '94 to Canda, divorced a couple years later. In that time, we had two children, Jacob and Emily.
In '98 I remarried to Jeanette, separated two years later, divorced two years after that. In the time before separation, we had two children, Dylan and Deserae. Jeanette had a daughter of her own when we met: Audre.
After the breakup with Jeanette, I adopted a new philosophy...I don't date. And I didn't, until 2002, when I met Haley. I broke my non-dating rule, and even though she brought me more joy than I had had in any past relationships, it ended quickly, causing me more pain than I'd ever felt. But in the in between time, we conceived a child, a daughter named Madeleine. Haley had a daughter of her own when we met: Willow.
All but Jacob and Emily live in Michigan. After losing contact with Catharine, Dylan and Deserae, I decided to move to Ohio where Jacob and Emily lived, to try and be closer to them. It didn't work out as planned, and soon I found myself out of touch with all my children. Then I met Darcy, and you know what happened from there with her. Darcy had two children of her own when I met her, a daughter Rinoa and a son Gavin. So with the addition of Dallas, we now have three.
Darcy's been very supportive in helping me overcome my fears and worries that have piled up over the years. She's helped me find the confidence to push forward and make the changes in my life that I've needed to make. I'm happy to say that after years of lost contact and not knowing where my children were, I now am in contact with all of my children.
FAMILY & FRIENDS: In search of the perfect place to settle, I've done plenty of exploring, and although this has allowed me to see a lot of the world, it puts a strain on any close relationships with either family or friends. Family wise...I see my mother on a regular basis, and we have become quite close, but then contact with family goes downhill from there. I talk with my brother Ron frequently by phone, and we are able to get together a couple times a year. My sister Kim and I have drifted out of touch, an occasional email or phone call within a six month period is a surprise for either of us. We hope to be able to see her on our trip coming up. And my dad remarried some years ago. With the new additions in his life, his focus has drifted elsewhere. I haven't talked with him since 2006, but we did receive a Christmas card just this last Christmas from him, so hopefully there's chance of reunion.
As for friends, I've had a lot of new faces come into my life, as well as hung onto old friendships, but I think I spread myself too thin at times and didn't allow myself to show how much each individual meant to me.
(The rest of this blog doesn't really need any intro, just up to date stuff...)
BIG FOUR (movies, music, books, video games): La la la-la la la, la la-la la lousy. A live action Smurf movie? Really? Okay, so I'm faking surprise, but in my opinon, I think they SHOULD bring these old classics back onto the big screen, but not with Hollywood dressing. Just put some polish on it and let's see what we loved in the first place. Smurfs, Alvin, Garfield, just bring us the best animated film that they could possibly be in. I'm not talking Shrek three dimensional (nor the NEW 3D fad), the polish I'm referring to is sharp picture with sharp writing. Have we lost all confidence in good scripting that we resort to fireworks displays? True, as long as it's bright and colorful, people will stare, but how often after a fireworks display do you hear, "It wasn't as good this year..." It's the same as last year, and that's the problem. Lack of creativity. Although, you gotta give it up for Azaria playing Gargamel...
Right now, I've put the other BIG THREE on hold to dive into the TV show Leverage. We have Netflix streaming, and getting season two through streaming ends on May 4th. So I'm watching them back to back. What boosted me to actually be able to do this was last night about midnight we had a loud storm, and Dallas came in and woke me up, scared. Darcy was up and down sick all night, and Rinoa and Gavin got up as well. So I turned on some kids movies for them, and I sat in my room watching Leverage. If you've never heard of Leverage, it's a simple base with plenty of complicated storylines. Timothy Hutton plays Nate, an out-of-work insurance investigator who lost his job when he lost himself to alcohol after the death of his son. After the standard bit of reluctance needed to fill 10 minutes of the show, he's thrown in with a group of criminals to, as Nate says, "pick up where the law leaves off." Each show has them taking on a case of someone who has been done wrong legally. It's not an easy show to describe, except maybe to compare it to movies like Ocean's Eleven or Brothers Bloom, or even The Sting. Why I find this to be a unique show is not just the diversity in acting (which starts out shaky with some and finds solid ground along the way), but the writing is strong. If you watch one episode after another of a certain show, most of the time a pattern evolves. Smallville tries to keep you on edge with Clark Kent's secret identity being revealed, and somehow by the end of the show it's always forgotten. Grey's Anatomy likes to throw in unknown love interests when someone gets too close, stir up the pot but predictably so. And these are necessary, because these are plot points that pull you back. But with Leverage, you're never really sure which way it's gonna go. It keeps things light, never taking itself too seriously, but it never gets hokey, that point in a show when you wonder what's you may be missing on the other channel. If you like con movies, it's definitely worth a view. I'm watching the seasons through Netflix, but you can catch it on TNT at 2 am Tuesday thru Friday. Set your DVR!
